Welcome to
AFA Riding Center & Sporthorses

The staff at AFA Riding Center would like to welcome you to our facilities; we are very pleased you have shown an interest in horsemanship and the equine.

Our services include boarding, training, and riding lessons. We teach both English and Western riding disciplines, for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced rider.

Our facility is open 7 days a week with various times available throughout the week for lessons and training. Our classes are determined by ability and age. Please contact the office for specific classes.

We prefer that all new riders take a private lesson for their first lesson. This allows the rider and instructor(s) to get to know each other. We require all beginners to take private lessons until they have the basics of controlling a horse at the walk and trot along with ring etiquette.

We train a limited number of horses. If a horse is accepted, we expect a commitment from the Rider/Client to work as hard as the horse does. This is with the understanding that they are a team and must learn to perform with and trust each other. The two must become as dance partners, with the rider leading and the horse following.

Our training follows a belief that a horse cannot perform properly if the horse is not supple and traveling uphill. This can take a long time to achieve. Thus, the training of the horse, or communicating and conditioning of the horse, is to supple and build muscle correctly. Once the horse is collected and supple, the rider's position must be correct and the aids used properly.

Additionally, the Rider/Client must understand that training is both physical and mental for both the horse and rider. With this in mind, we believe that a horse and rider must build a relationship or rapport with each other.

Finally, each horse must be given time to work on its own schedule/pace because each animal is its own individual, as is each human. So please understand that we cannot give a timeline; it takes as long as it takes!

We do take (so-called) problem horses!

Our goal is to raise the bar in the horsemanship of Texas!
